Followed the link here posted over at Gaia, however despite the server statistics saying there are 1001 workunits, I am unable to download any.

I, also, have not received any work units from the project, despite the server status showing many are available.

Are you running Linux? There aren't any Windows tasks

I thought I had added the project to both of my machines, I'll check in the morning. This is my Windows machine, the other is my Linux node.

I checked, a simple goof, I got ahead of myself and failed to "finish". It has downloaded a work unit now.

Out of curiosity, why is the project Linux only?

Linux is more of a programmers language. Most projects start out with Linux apps. Some like GIAI never develop a Windows app. Other projects recognize that Windows is a more popular OS and make an app for that as well.

There is a work around for Windows though.

I don't believe that this project is explicitly Linux-only, but it appears to be in some kind of early testing phase, in which case it's likely just running the same application that would normally be run on an HPC cluster. Linux is completely dominant in scientific computing, so Linux workloads can spill over to BOINC without much work on the project operator's behalf, whereas a Windows-native binary would really only be useful for running with BOINC (and wouldn't need to exist otherwise).

The BOINC developers have also received feedback that more scientific workloads are being run as Linux containers and are difficult to make work in BOINC, which is what prompted them to work on BUDA.

Perhaps this project will never have Windows-compatible workloads (although you can run these workloads with a Linux virtual machine on your Windows box), but I think declaring this project Linux-only is premature.

As of this very week, people have been asking for a windows Gaia app for the past 5 years and it's never happened.

Certainly, things develop a "culture". I programmed for engineering companies. From the '70's through to fairly recently, programs were written in Fortran, several versions of that, although 77 was really common throughout. There were no PC's when I started, I used DEC and SEL minicomputers, and, for a few jobs, ICL mainframes. I switched to C/C++ on PC's around the turn of the century, although one firm I worked at was a Delphi house. I still have a Fortran compiler somewhere actually.

No, the project owners can't be bothered to create a Windows application.

Every project has an applications page that show what tasks can be available. This project only shows a Linux application.
